If you are ever near Marks, MS, ask the residents about the vegetable processing facility. In all honesty, it may even be a secret that few locals know about. Well, now we have the scoop!
Mr. Roosevelt Holmes showed us the logistics behind the operation, from the high powered washer system, the two industrial strength pea shellers, down to the three massive freezer systems (with backup freezer systems just in case of power failure).
The facility, sponsored by Alcorn State University, allows local producers to wash, package, and ship their fresh produce to food chain stores. This year, Alcorn Processing Facility hopes to help NDPGA continue to supply food chain stores such as Wal-mart, with local fresh vegetables, such as leafy greens, sweet potatoes, squash, tomatoes, lettuce, and other produce.
At the height of its growing season, NDPGA employs eight to ten workers, providing job opportunities to our local citizens. It’s located at 1300 Killbrew Road. When you’re in the area, stop by and see it!
